     XP Image Resizer

This is a great little utility designed for the Context Menu (the little menu you get when you
right-click on something). Just install and when you need to resize photos for emailing etc, just
right-click and choose ‘Resize Pictures’. It will append (=add to the end) the file with the word
small, medium or large, depending on which one you choose. I use this program myself. This is a
        freeware program

     Schmaili

This is a great little program for adding ‘smileys’ to your email. It has a small footprint (meaning it
doesn’t take up much room or resources when it is installed), is easy to use and has lots of great
smileys. I use this program myself. Shareware for the full version. Freeware for the Basic Version

     Mozilla Firefox

This is an internet browser similar to Opera. A good alternative to Internet Explorer. I use this program
when Internet Explorer starts playing up. Freeware

      Mozilla Thunderbird

This is Mozilla's answer to Outlook Express. With the release of Windows 7, which does not come
with an email program, users will need to download, install and setup an email client of their own.
Thunderbird is a frontrunner for the email application race.

     Adobe Acrobat Reader

A lot of documents on the internet today are in ‘pdf’ (Portable Document Format). This format is used
so that users don’t need to have the software the document was created in, in order to read it, and it
keeps formatting and content stable. After the Adobe Acrobat Reader is installed, it will open any pdf
document you click on and display. I use Foxit Reader instead. Freeware

     Foxit Pdf Reader

This program is an alternative to Adobe Acrobat Reader, which has a tendency to keep updating. Foxit

is quicker to open and doesn't crash as often as Adobe. This is my choice of PDF readers - Freeware

     Faststone Capture

This is a very handy capture utility. You can capture a full screen, the active window or lasso the section
you want to capture. An essential utility on my system. Was freeware but was changed to Shareware
when the latest version (6.5) was released. However you can still google the program to find a download
and any version before 6.5 will still be Freeware.

        CCleaner

Does your computer need cleaning? Instead of doing it all yourself, bit by bit, using CCleaner will do it
all automatically – all you have to do is tick the boxes of the actions you want it to perform and go and
make a coffee. I use this one too. Freeware

     Shockwave

This is a browser plugin (a small extra file that does something special in Internet Explorer or Mozilla
Firefox. Most up-to-date computers and browsers have this installed, but if you don't, follow the link
        below to get it.  Freeware

       PDF Creator

A PDF File can be handy for a number of reasons: you don't know what kind of software the person
reading it has on their computer, you don't want anyone to make changes to the document, or you
want the formatting to stay exactly the same. Whatever the reason, exporting or converting your
files to pdf format is very easy with this program. When you install the program it creates a 'virtual
printer' and instead of using a program interface to create the pdf file, all you do is open the document
you want to convert to pdf, click File, Print, (as usual), but except choosing your regular printer, you
change the printer to PDF Creator. It doesn't actually print the document onto paper, but converts it
to a pdf file and saves it where you instruct it to. Very very handy and one little utility that I have
used a for a number of years with no problems at all. Freeware
